The O/o CGPDTM (shortform for 'the Office of Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trademarks') had released the preliminary schedule of the Patent Agent Examination 2027 ('PAE 2027') on their website dated March 27^th, 2026. In connection with the previous communication, the latest O/o CGPDTM has issued the detailed schedule regarding the same on June 23^rd, 2026, with all the related information concerning 'Exam Schedule', 'Online Registration Process', 'the Criteria for Eligibility', 'Syllabus', and 'Mode of the Examination' with 'Tentative Timeline' of every key milestone involved.

Note:- The O/o CGPDTM shall be the final legal authority for confirmation on all information/issues related to the conduct of the PAE 2027, including the timelines, criteria and manner of conduct of the examination proceedings. Eligibility & Qualification for PAE 2027

• The Patent Act 1970:
• Aspiring candidates for the Patent Agent Examination 2027 are urged to verify their qualification in compliance with the stipulated provisions, Section 126 of The Patents Act, 1970.
• The Patent Rules, 2003:
• The eligibility requirements for the Patent Agent Examination 2027 will be established in accordance with Rule 110 of The Patents Rules, 2003.

[IMPORTANT - Validations] - 2027 PAE Online Application
Candidate\s should have the following information available before initiating the Online Registration Process for PAE 2027.
Make sure you have a working mobile number and a working personal email address.

Note: The candidate should make sure that his email address and mobile number are functional throught the PAE 2027 examination processing, these are the main channels of communication. 

• Please provide a clear and high-resolution passport-sized photograph in JPG/JPEG format. File size should not exceed 300 KB.
• Please provide a clear signature in JPG/JPEG format, in BLACK INK ONLY, and no larger than 100 KB. Please note that signatures in upper case will not be recognized.

• Proof of Age (Any One) :– PAN Card, Driving License, 10th Class Certificate, Birth Certificate etc.
• Degree Certificate :– Under Section 126(1)(c) of the Patents Act, 1970 (as amended).
• Proof of Citizenship (Any One) :– Birth Certificate, Voter ID Card, Passport or Nationality Certificate.

1. Provide your email address and mobile phone number to complete the registration process.- Select a unique user ID upon Signing-up. You will also receive your User ID and PAE 2027 Application Number via email.
2. Fill out the online form with your personal and other details correctly.
3. Upload the following documents: photo, signature, proof of age, certificates and proof of identity.
4. It is strongly advised to the candidate to verify all the information mentioned in the application form before the final submission of the form. Once submitted, no changes will be permitted on the form.
5. The registration fee for Patent Agent Examination as per Rule 109(3) of the Patents Rules, 2003 is ₹. 1600/- (Indian Rupees Sixteen Hundred Only). The fee must be paid online only. Pay the fee and apply please.

Mode of Examination for PAE 2027

The exam will be conducted in three parts in offline mode only, the O/o CGPDTM will update in case of any specific arrangement thereto.

✍️ Paper 1

• Questions: 100 MCQs
• Duration: 120 Minutes

✍️ Paper 2

• Questions: Descriptive types
• Duration: 180 Minutes

The schedule for the PAE 2027 Viva-Voce examination will be disclosed following the conclusion of the written examination. The list of candidates chosen for the Viva-Voce examination will be available on the website. Only candidates who have attained a minimum of 50% in each paper separately will be permitted to participate in the Viva-Voce.

It will be face to face interview for 50 Marks, Techno-Legal interview at the relevant opted IPO Office, The Viva-Voce will be conducted in physical mode, only as per the annouced schedule.

Final Results for PAE 2027

The final results will be available tentatively around Third Week of March 2027 on the official website of the Indian Patent Office.
